Frequently asked questions

Where are you based? Where are your original artworks and fine art prints produced?

Joan is based in Phillip Island, Victoria and paints from her home studio. She sources her canvases from a local small business in Melbourne. We also use this company for photographing, printing and framing our exclusive run and limited edition prints. They are specialists in bespoke, handcrafted, high quality frames and fine art printing and they proudly manufacture all of their materials and frames here in Australia from the highest quality materials.

What is the difference between limited edition and exclusive run prints?

With limited editions, artists restrict the total amount of artworks produced in the edition and only a fixed number of prints are produced, no more prints can be created after they are all sold. Thus making the print more scarce, valuable and collectable.

Limited edition prints are accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity that includes both the edition size and number (meaning at what point in the edition run it was struck). For example, the first print in a run of fifty would be marked 1/50, the last being labeled 50/50. We only allow for 50 Limited Edition Prints per size.

On the other hand, Exclusive run prints are open edition artworks that allow for an unlimited number of the same artwork to be produced but these are only obtainable from Joan Blond Art. We do not not sell exclusive run prints anywhere other than through Joan directly.

Limited edition prints are valued more highly as they are rare and therefore are usually priced higher than the exclusive run/open edition prints. Also, limited edition prints are collectible, which is not the case for open edition prints.

The print quality of both editions are equal and maintain the same degree of detail in every artwork. We use the same high quality materials and ink for every order.

How much is shipping in Australia?

Free shipping is offered on all unframed prints Australia wide! Framed prints are a flat rate fee of $100 Australia wide. Shipping on original artworks are to be calculated dependent on location and paid by the customer after purchase.

Do you offer international shipping?

Yes we offer international shipping on all unframed prints! How long will my print take to be delivered?

All prints are custom orders; therefore please allow 4 weeks for production and delivery of your artwork if you live in Australia. If you are an international customer please allow 6 weeks to receive your artwork.

What is the difference between cotton rag and canvas? Is one better than the other?

We print on premium, archival quality materials to ensure your prints don’t just look good, but last the test of time too. Both print options are of equally high quality, it just depends on which style framing you prefer as to which material you choose to order.

Smooth Cotton Rag: Made from 100% cotton and using a hot press production technique, this media features a smooth matte finish with no optical brightening agents. With a natural coloration and a light fast rating of over 100 years, its the media of choice for artwork reproductions.  A high quality, thick material with an incredibly soft and felt-like structure, this paper produces outstanding prints that feature brilliant colours and perfect reproduction of detail. A print in this material is recommended to be framed under glass.
Canvas: an ultra durable, smooth finish and water resistant canvas that produces deep vibrant colours and outstanding blacks. Canvas is strong and durable but has a light weight quality and is highly archival. A print in this material is recommended to have a floating frame.

What framing option do you recommend for my print if I order it unframed and how do I organize this myself?

Archival Cotton Photo Rag prints are designed to be framed under glass. We recommend that Satin Canvas prints are float/box framed. Both unframed print options are ready for you to take directly to a local framer, there is nothing else you need to do with them before this. Your print order should only be opened by your chosen professional framer to avoid damage.

Please note that most of our canvas prints can be offered stretched & framed so if you'd like this option you can order this directly through our website.

How is my unframed print delivered? And what do I do once I receive it?

Unframed prints are delicate and therefore carefully packaged in a protective cylinder. Once an order is received it should only be opened by your chosen professional framer to avoid damage. Prints are delicate and any damage incurred once removed from their protective cylinder will not be the responsibility of Joan Blond Art. Both satin canvas and cotton rag unframed prints are delivered ready to be framed under glass or stretched and framed.

How is a print created?

Our high-quality fine art prints have been professionally crafted from an original Joan Blond Artwork and are photographed by a professional photographer in very high resolution. Artworks are photographed using an incredible Fuji GFX-100 Medium format camera and processed with industry leading Eizo monitors to ensure that none of the important details are missed and that all reproductions are true to the original work.

The state-of-the-art medium format photography studio turns the original artwork into incredible, colour accurate and stunningly detailed digital files ready for print.

Industry leading Epson P20000 series printers with a tailored colour management workflow are used to print stunning, archival quality fine art prints on a variety of archival materials. This allows for the highest quality print and maintains the essence, color and energy that Joan’s work is known for.

Once the artwork has been printed it is then framed by the same printing company. They take exceptional care and pay great attention to detail. All frames are manufactured in Australia from the highest quality materials and framing is performed by hand. Your finished artwork is then carefully packaged to be collected by a courier. If you order an unframed print it is carefully packaged in a protective cylinder.

How long will an original painting that's featured on your website take to be delivered?

The completed original artworks on our website are usually delivered within 3-4 weeks weeks depending on your location. Shipping costs are to be paid by the customer after purchase and are calculated dependent on location.

Do you offer commissions on original artwork? And if so what is the process?

Commissions are welcomed and form the bulk of my work. I need four things in order to get started:

1. A $500 deposit

2. The size of the piece wanted i.e. 1.23m x 1.53m or 1.23mx 2.01m

3. Images of 3 or 4 of my paintings that you like and I will reference those works when I do your painting. Also let me know any colours that you don’t like (if any)

4. Whether you want it framed in natural Oak or a black frame

The lead time for completion of paintings at the moment is approximately 4-6 weeks from receipt of the deposit.

To give you an idea of price; the 1.23 x 1.53 is $5,000 and the 1.23 metre x 2.01 is $6,000. I can paint you any size you require because I get a lot of my canvasses specially made.

Please send any commission enquiries with the above criteria to Joan directly at joan@joanblondart.com for further details and pricing.
